2024

Through a grain of salt

2024 was a year of great change, not just for myself but for the world around us as we were plunged into changing socioeconomic and geopolitical environments.

The world of food has not remained entirely untouched as a number of outlets announced their closure this year, including some personal favourites such as Charcoal Fish, Petermen and Warike to name a few that come to mind.

Newly Discovered

Malatang’s House

Canley Heights

It started with a quest for malatang down in West Sydney, a desire to try something new- spending time flitting from Cabramatta to Canley Vale, we finally stopped over at Canley Heights to find Malatang’s House with a refreshing variety of broths and aromatic stir fry options on the menu.

Malatang’s House in Canley Heights has quickly climbed the ranks to be my favourite weekly indulgence, often opting for a seafood heavy combination in their hot and spicy stir fry!

In Memory of…

St Peter

Regrettably, after their stint in St Leonards, and having earned 2 Chef’s Hats, St Peter has recently closed its doors in December 2024 and will be missed.

Charcoal Fish

Another venture from the Niland’s lost to 2024, having been one of my favourite upmarket fish and chip options, it was nice to have a place that offered a combination of fresh and seasonal salads.

Warike

In Singapore, when I first encountered Peruvian food, it was truly love and first bite and with Warike, it felt like I was reliving the experience.
