Enjoy Mie- Sydney, NSW

A little Indonesian paradise filled with delightful classics, delivering a taste of familiarity away from home.

Walking along the side streets near Chinatown allows for the showcase of a series of delights in an ever changing rotation of restaurants in the ever-changing landscape of Sydney’s culinary background. In the days leading up to my birthday, we had done a tufting class in the neighbourhood before searching for a quick meal option for dinner.

Stumbling upon Enjoy Mie in the city, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to try it, as it had been some time since I had some bakmi and had sorely missed it. From what I had encountered in Indonesia, I had expected a quick, hearty meal which met every objective on our agenda that night!

Bakmi Babi Merah

One of my classic favourite noodles from Southeast Asia, the roasted charsiew meat was tender, sweet and savoury all at once.

The noodles were lightly seasoned and flavourful in the way that was very reminiscent of the authentic flavours I had in Jakarta, years ago.

Mie Kari Ayam

A classic chicken curry dish, this ticked all the familiar flavours of Southeast Asian curries- the broth itself unctuous enough to coat the noodles and chicken though not excessively thick to the point of being overwhelming and unbearable.

To accompany this dinner, we had some classic Teh Botol- which literally translates to Bottled Tea, a bottled Jasmine Tea drink that is usually found in Indonesia and across a number of their minimarts and food establishments.

I find myself thinking of Enjoy Mie often, craving another taste of Indonesia, though I do not spend too much time in the city.

During our first visit, the murtabak was sold out- and I find myself hoping that the next time we come, that hopefully they might have stock!
