Yakiniku Shin 信- Haymarket, NSW

Having spent many an afternoon in Haymarket, Yakitori Shin is a potential treasure to visit hidden in plain sight near Darling Square.

Strolling down from Market City to Darling Square, I have always passed by Yakitori Shin on the way to the other eateries that I frequent in the area. Finally on Monday after a job interview near the city, I decided that today was the day that I would give into the curiosity and try out the well decorated yakiniku place that I had walked by numerous times.

Entering the premises, its interior is well designed and decorated with a number of sliding doors that conceal other seated areas for larger groups which would be excellent for evening gatherings. Service was also attentive and prompt as you place your orders on their offered iPad and system, with staff promptly presenting them to you when ready and checking on you from time to time.

Foie Gras Sushi and pickles

The menu specified that this was 19g of foie gras- I cannot say that I carry a weighing scale around with me to either confirm or deny this, but it was enjoyable enough on its own- the amount not too overwhelmingly rich.

Kaisen Don

Yakiniku Shin has a variety of foods on their lunch menu, sets of all varieties, including an option for a Chirashi don or a Kaisen don, where both will come with miso soup as part of the set.

They also have smaller yakiniku lunch sets, sized appropriately for a lighter solo lunch.

Wagyu Yukke

With every yakiniku place, you would expect the meat to be fresh enough to have an option to have it as a yukke and Yakiniku Shin was no exception with a lightly seasoned and aromatic sesame oil mix in their meat, the egg and chilli threads were the classic combination that all come to love in a yukke.

Overall, I had a nice and well priced lunch for what it was in the city, leaving me well fed and filled with a sense of curiosity for other items on the menu- including the Hunters Plate for yakiniku options with a variety of game meat for grilling.

I cannot say if this place will become a staple considering the endless options to try in the city, but I will definitely be returning to try out their yakiniku options when I have more company to better assess a greater range of their varieties and offerings!

An interesting new contender joining the list of restaurants that catch my interest in Haymarket.
